Thanks to all who came down to the beach for our 3rd Annual Coney Island Beach 5s Tournament. This year was our biggest yet with 10 co-ed touch rugby teams competing, and an event attendance of over 150 people.
Congratulations first to our cup winners Super Touch, who beat fellow Pier 40 touch team Honey Beez to secure the Grand Prize. The Honey Beez did not go home empty handed, however, with their player Martin Scherzinger being named MVP of the tournament. Second congratulations go to Shitshowmania, our Plate Final winners who took on the Prospect Park touch team, winning 4 -1. The team comprised of former Brooklyn Rugby players – including club founders Mike Haynes and Justin Knight – and lead by current prop/flanker Brian O’Neill.
A huge THANK YOU to those who volunteered their time to help make this event a success including our referees, merchandise people, photographers and the people who helped us set up and take down the fields and tents at the start and end of the day. Thank you for helping us make this event a success.
