Join Brooklyn Rugby

Everything you need to get started

We’re excited for you to join the family.

We welcome all to practices. There are no “try-outs.” You do not need rugby experience to join! For your first practice, wear athletic clothing, sneakers (or cleats if you have them), and bring water.

Our practices run from mid-February to mid-November every year. Feel free to reach out on Instagram (BK Men, Hyenas) or the contact page of the website if you have any questions on the next practice date.

Below you will find information regarding team communication, the Brooklyn Rugby Club Code of Conduct, CIPP info, and contact information. It will include the most important information and immediate action items.

Locations

Training: Red Hook Park

Practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:15 – 9:15PM

Our field is located in the Red Hook Baseball Fields, 825 Henry Street, Brooklyn NY 11231, directly across from the Red Hook Recreation Center.

Getting There:
Practice fields are accessible by the F/G trains at Smith & 9th Street, and nearby bus stations for B57 and B61 (Lorraine St. / Henry St.)

What to Bring:
You need very little equipment to play rugby, just:
-Cleats & athletic socks
-A mouthguard (popular brands: ShockDoc & Sisu)
-A water bottle
-Spandex/compression shorts (needed for game day)

If you are new to the sport, feel free to come to your first practices with sneakers if you do not already own cleats. However, we recommend getting them as soon as possible.

Match Day: Kaiser Park

Match days are on Saturdays, with kickoffs varying from 10AM – 2PM outside the occasional evening home game.

Brooklyn Rugby’s home field is the football field at Kaiser Park in Coney Island, 2529 Neptune Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11224.

Away games are determined before the start of the season, so we encourage you to follow our social media or keep an eye on our events calendar to be the first to know once our schedule is finalized.

Car pools or other collective transport are coordinated the week of away games according to player availability.

Getting There:
Kaiser Park is accessible by the D/F/N/Q trains at Stillwell Ave, and nearby bus stations for B35, B78, and B82.
